How to select and calculate the screw and motor when lifting a load of 100 kg back and forth

1. Screw lift selection example

Lifting weight: Lifting weight is 100kg.

Lifting speed: Common lifting speeds are 10-500mm/s.

Screw diameter: According to the lifting weight and speed, refer to the screw lift selection table to select the appropriate screw diameter.

Screw lead: Calculate the screw lead based on the lifting speed and motor speed.

Bearing type: Select the appropriate bearing type based on load and speed.

Installation method: Choose the appropriate installation method according to the application scenario.

2. Motor selection

Motor Power: Calculates motor power based on screw lift load, speed and efficiency.

Motor speed: Calculate the motor speed based on the screw lead and lifting speed.

Motor type: Choose the appropriate motor type according to application requirements. Common motor types are stepper motors and servo motors.

Motor voltage: Select the appropriate motor voltage according to the actual application environment.

3. Calculation formula

Rated load of screw lift:

F = P / (η * tan(α))



F: Screw lift rated load (N)

P: Motor power (W)

η: Screw lift efficiency (generally 0.7-0.9)

α: Screw lead angle (°)

Motor Power:

P = F * V / η


P: Motor power (W)

F: Screw lift rated load (N)

V: Screw lift lifting speed (m/s)

η: Screw lift efficiency (generally 0.7-0.9)

Motor speed:

n = V / (π * d * tan(α))


n: motor speed (r/min)

V: Screw lift lifting speed (m/s)

d: Screw diameter (m)

α: Screw lead angle (°)

Real case.

Assume that the lifting weight is 100kg, the lifting speed is 200mm/s, the screw efficiency is 0.8, and the motor voltage is 220V.

1. Screw lift selection

Calculate the rated load of the screw lift according to formula 1:
F = P / (η * tan(α)) = 1000 / (0.8 * tan(1.43°)) = 87400 N
Consult the screw lift selection table and select a screw lift with a rated load greater than 87400N, for example:

Screw diameter: 20mm
Screw lead: 10mm
2. Motor selection

Calculate the motor power according to Equation 2:
P = F * V / η = 100 * 0.2 / 0.8 = 25 W
Calculate the motor speed according to Equation 3:
n = V / (π * d * tan(α)) = 0.2 / (π * 0.02 * tan(1.43°)) = 1440 r/min
Choose a motor with a power greater than 25W and a speed close to 1440r/min, for example:

Motor type: stepper motor
Motor power: 30W
Motor speed: 1500 r/min
Motor voltage: 220V
